Q. WHAT KIND OF CAMERA DO YOU USE?
A. Canon 5D Mark II, 21 MP.
Q. Where did you study photography?
A. I was self-taught for many years but in 2009 I had the rare opportunity to study under Austrailian photographer Jerry Ghionis, widely reputed to be one of the top 5 wedding photographers in the world. This experience changed my photography forever and I am greatly indebted to him.
Q. WHAT DOES "RAWSII" MEAN?
A. I'm so glad you asked. If you want the short version...It's our brand name and we MADE IT UP. If you want to know how and why, keep reading.
When it was time to come up with a name, I wanted to accomplish four things. 1) It had to be COMPLETELY original. Nobody else could be doing it AT ALL. 2) It had to have personal meaning to me. My artwork is personalized so my business name needed to be as well. 3) It had to sound bold and edgy but fashionable as well. 4) I wanted it to be a brand name, not just a business name.
SO, my smashing fabulous assistant Bridget and I sat down and started thinking of things that made me uniquely ME and affected my artwork. The long list was pared down to primarily the color red, my Italian blood lines, my raw-food diet, home birth, and love of nature mixed with edgy fashion. Those were the big ones. I wasn't sure how to pull all that together into one word. We started by looking at Italian words for red. Rossi jumped out at me. I knew that American's would never pronounce it with the Italian pronunciation, but I liked it anyways...I liked the way it looked and sounded so I latched on to it quickly. BUT when I researched "Rossi" it turned out to be very over-used. Not original AT ALL. So we began toying with other ideas. I kept coming back to how much I liked the sound of the word. Bridget suggested we spell it "RAW" instead which would represent my love of raw foods and that whole "natural" side of me. And the "ii" at the end is because there are two i's in my name and because it added the perfect bit of edginess to balance out the natural. The "Raw" in Rawsii also represents my love of capturing raw emotion and guess what...I shoot in RAW too, so there's even more meaning to it. SO, there you have it! Rawk on!
Q. WHAT DO YOU CHARGE FOR EXTRA HOURS AT A WEDDING?
A. We sit down and plan the schedule with you so that everything fits comfortably in 10 hours. But we know wedding days and they don't always run as planned. For reasonable accidental overage, we don't charge anything. If you know you will need extra time and want to plan that in, at least one of us will be happy to do so at a rate of $150/hr.
Q. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE LOCATION?
A. The best location is the one that means something to you! We can take awesome pictures ANYWHERE. For this reason, we will usually insist that you choose. In the event that you absolutely cannot, we're happy to ask you a few questions that will help us figure it out together.
Q. WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?
A. Be your favorite self. Wear what makes you feel incredibly sexy. It doesn't have to be plain, it doesn't have to be complicated. It just has to be YOU. We will be inspired by however you choose to express yourself.
Q. CAN I SWAP OUT OR REMOVE THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION FROM MY WEDDING PACKAGE?
A. Occasionally we are approached by clients who have already had engagement pictures taken and want to know if it can be removed or if they can structure a package ala carte. At Rawsii, the engagement session is much more than just engagement pictures. It's an important part of getting to know you, and getting you to feel comfortable in front of the camera. Rawsii artwork is very personalized and always turns out best when you are relaxed. Both of these things are accomplished during the engagement session, which is why we do include it in every wedding package and do not allow it to be removed or swapped.
